Two CcaM researchers, Dr. Helen Vossen & Professor Ed Tan, will present new research findings at the empathy symposium entitled “Understanding Each Other: Towards an Interdisciplinary Conceptualization of Empathy” organized by the Centre for Child and Adolescent Studies (CAS) at the University of  Utrecht on Thursday, May 1.

The aim of the symposium is to build bridges between different fields and advance an interdisciplinary understanding of empathy, its developmental trajectories and influences, neural underpinnings, and correlates in behavior and mental health.

In his poster presentation (titled "Understanding film authors is a necessity for understanding movies: Towards researching joint orientation in communication through film"), Professor Tan will discuss why empathy is a crucial aspect of the movie experience.

In her poster presentation (titled "Development of the Child and Adolescent Measure of Empathy and Sympathy (CAMES)"), Dr. Vossen will discuss why current child-focused measures of empathy are problematic and will present a new scale that addresses previous measurement limitations.

If you are interested to learn more about either presentation, please contact the study authors directly: Professor Ed Tan (This email address is being protected from spambots.
