Annemarie van Oosten and Karin Fikkers, PhD students at CcaM, have been selected to participate in a summer school organized by the League of European Research Universities (LERU). The summer school takes place from July 14-18. The theme of the summer school is “Doing the right things right - Research Integrity in a Complex Society”.
Van Oosten and Fikkers will participate in a week-long program with 40 other PhD students from other LERU universities. The summer school is focused on highlighting the ethical issues in research in order to provide participants with an understanding of the complexities of ethical decision-making in an international context as well as an appreciation for researching with integrity.
The objectives of the summer school are to:
- share insight into defining and achieving research integrity through interaction with leading experts
- raise awareness and interest in ethical questions in research and innovation by creating a stimulating cross-disciplinary environment;
- promote students’ appreciation for ethically sustainable solutions in research and innovation;
- help students develop tools for recognizing, analyzing, and solving ethical issues in research; and
- prepare students to function as future ethical leaders in their research communities.
