I am trained as an experimental (neuro-) developmental psychologist at the University of Amsterdam. Currently, I am assistant professor at the Department of Psychology (department of Developmental Psychology) at the University of Amsterdam. As of September 2010, I am involved as an associate professor in the ERC Advanced grant “The entertainization of childhood: an etiology of risks and opportunities”, awarded to professor Patti Valkenburg. My research focuses on the development of executive function from childhood through young-adulthood. Executive function comprises the cognitive and emotional regulation processes that are necessary for goal-oriented, efficient, and adaptive (social) behavior. Recently, I co-authored the first standardized test instrument in The Netherlands for everyday behavioral manifestations of children’s executive functions: the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF).
