Karin Fikkers, a PhD candidate at CcaM, has been appointed the new secretary of the Children, Adolescents, and the Media (CAM) division of the International Communication Association (ICA).
Effective May 2014, Karin will be responsible for communication to and with CAM members over the next two years. This includes attending CAM business meetings during the next two annual conferences as well as developing and disseminating a new monthly newsletter. Karin succeeds Esther Rozendaal, who served as CAM secretary between 2012 and 2014 (and who is a CcaM alumna as well).
ICA is an international academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching, and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication. Within ICA, the CAM division represents the group of scholars who study the role of media in the lives of children and young people. CAM aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas among scholars of different backgrounds and disciplinary orientations, informed by a variety of theoretical and empirical approaches. The division has approximately 300 members, of which 50% are US scholars and 50% come from countries all over the world. More information about the CAM within ICA can be found on their website: http://cam.icahdq.org/ohana/website/index.cfm?p=55259870.
Congratulations to Karin on this fine achievement!
