CcaM at ICA 2026
The CcaM research team attended the 76th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association, held from 4–8 June 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, under the theme Communication and Inequalities in Context.
Scholars contributed to a wide range of ICA divisions and interest groups, including Children, Adolescents and Media, and Well-being, Computational Methods, Game Studies, Gender and Race in Digital Spaces, Theoretical Advancements in Interpersonal Communication Research, Assessing the Digital Competence of Youth, and other areas focusing on media effects, digital technologies, and communication processes. Their presentations addressed topics such as youth and media use, digital trace data, media effects, gaming, online behaviour, and methodological innovation.
Beyond presenting research, CcaM members also took on leadership roles as chairs and moderators contributing to the international exchange of ideas.
Several colleagues received competitive awards and recognitions. Such as Associate Prof Susanne Baumgartner, Prof Dr Jochen Peter, Assistant Prof Jeroen Lemmens and Dr Rinaldo Kuhne in various divisions. The former YME Master's student Elena Rainer (advisor: Amber van der Wal) received the Amanda L. Kundrat Thesis of the Year Award, the student paper award(s) goes to Yuhi Oliva Chen, in collaboration with Associate Prof. Sindy Sumter et al, and finally, Prof Dr Jessica Piotrowski, who was awarded as an ICA fellow!
